MOUNT PLEASANT, Michigan — All three MML teams showed flashes of excellence this weekend, though none made it through the semifinals.
The U-16 White squad, led by Jamail Webster, won two bracket games on Sunday before ultimately bowing out to Michigan Madness in the semifinals of the silver tournament.
The U-16 Blue team was upset Sunday afternoon by Championship sports. The team, led by Bryce Jenkins, had a nice little bounce-back run after a loss in the pool play opener, including a pair of blowout victories.
Finally, the U-17 squad received a bye in the first round of the silver bracket on Sunday, beat the West Michigan Lakers-White before coming up short in a marathon game versus Shoreline, 84-76. Amariontez Thomas averaged 22 points per game in five games for the Lakers, including 28 in the opener versus Michigan Madness.
The two best plays I saw this weekend were the DEEP 3-pointer by Webster (video above) and a tremendous hustle play by Kelvin Weston (U-17), chasing down a player the length of the court and taking away a lay-up.
