GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — The U-17 Mid-Michigan Lakers ran their season record to 12-0 before falling just short of a second straight championship. The Lakers lost to West Michigan by seven points after an improbable run to the finals in the big-boy bracket in Grand Rapids.
Ironically, the two teams in the championship game were not out of the two “super pools.” The Lakers were slighted from the start, to be sure, but they went ahead and earned their spot in the top bracket.
Zeshawn Jones-Parker (Lapeer West) led the Lakers with 42 combined points in the semifinal and final. JD Tisdale (Swartz Creek) added 36 combined points.
The most impressive aspect of the team’s run to the final is the fact that they did it without starting small forward Markell Lucas (Flint Beecher). The 6-3 Lucas injured his leg on Friday night and did not play the rest of the weekend. A whole host of players stepped in to take some of the sting out of the loss including 6-4 forward Dan Buschman (Brighton), 6-6 forward Tyler Centilli (Clio) and 6-6 forward Shawn Brouwer (Swartz Creek), who scored 10 points in the semifinal win over I-90 Elite.
Keep working hard and good things will come your way.
I agree coach. Those boys worked hard this weekend, they should all be very proud of themselves. They just need to believe in themselves and each other and there is a great deal they will accomplish this season.
Just call me Jared. Trust me, If I had been the coach they’d have been in the Copper or Tin Foil bracket.
You are hilarious bro! Btw, thinking about it, I believe it was 12-0 before the championship game.
That’s what I had originally…but I changed it because I thought you were smarter than me. LOL.
Sorry Jared. I realized after i posted it and was to tired to go back and change it.
Indeed…confidence goes a long way to success and everyone has to play with it at all times to truly reach their maximum level. Right, wrong, or indifferent, be confident while you are doing it!
